More to life than work!
During an opening address at a recent martial arts event, the speaker described the impact “one phone call” had on a child’s life. It made me think of an activity I shared in last week and thought it worth sharing with you in the hope that you might consider what you can offer (regardless of how insignificant it might seem initially) that would have a positive impact on another persons life.
This event was organized by a national pilots association and is called “Young Eagles”. It provides the opportunity, for kids from ages 6-16, to experience flight from the perspective of a small plane.
Over 16 pilots donated their planes and time in Rochester, NY to give more than 150 kids the opportunity to experience the possibilities that come with flying. The event is open to one and all but the vast majority of the kids are from an urban setting. Of the 11 kids that flew with me, only one had seen the inside of an airplane. I believe it’s safe to say that each and every child now have a very different view of the world they live in.. Smiles, screams and new dreams….all well worth the expenditure of a few hours and a few drops of aviation fuel. If you ever get the chance…you should come witness the before and after at such an event
. The memories alone are worth the time spent. I suspect these kids all shared a very different outlook when they returned to their homes and maybe for some, school will hold more promise as well.
